Key modules of time-travel.app
Using search
The search bar lets you travel directly to any given historical event
, person
or realm
between 1000 BC and 1970 AD – just click on a search result and you will be
transported to the relevant place and period on the map.
In addition, search results can include related items
from a rich library of history podcasts and documentaries.
You can also use the search bar simply to find locations
on the map.
Using the time slider
Moving the time slider transports you to the year, decade or century of your choice. Use the drop-down menu right above it to adjust the time span you would like to explore. The events, persons and realms you see displayed will update accordingly.
For precise, year-by-year moves, use the arrows at the top and bottom of the slider.
The drift button
in the bottom-right corner lets you switch from a static view of the period you selected
to a dynamic drift forward or backward through time. Use the small control panel that opens
below the year display to change direction and speed and watch the map evolve as you move
through history.
Using the toggles
The toggles control what you see on the map. If you would like to make it less busy and, for instance, focus on events only, un-check the boxes for persons, realms and media.
Media items live in their own separate layer: toggling media on will toggle other items off, and vice versa.
Suggestions
The suggestions box displays particularly relevant historical events for the time period and section of the map you are currently viewing. As you scroll to different parts of the map or move the time slider, the suggestions update accordingly.
Clicking on any suggested event transports you directly to its location on the map.
When you activate drift through time
, this box behaves like a news feed – key events for the region come and go as you move
through time.
Drift through time
The drift control panel lets you move forward or backward through time and adjust the speed at which you do so:
Using the single arrow buttons, you move one year at a time; using the double arrow buttons, you move one decade at a time.
You can switch direction or speed at any moment, or return to a static view by pausing the drift.
